That's not the point.
The point is that we were so fricking brainwashed into believing "America Great, Everyone Else Bad" growing up that it's almost impossible to break the hold that mindset has on people now.
So, when people start simply pointing out to our children in their curriculum that maybe the history of our country is more nuanced than what was previously taught, others get bent out of shape because everything they took at face value from their school days is turned on its head.
It's a natural reaction, and it's part of the reason the messaging has seemingly grown louder and more aggressive. To deconstruct closely held beliefs and worldviews is a tall task and most people shut down and won't listen.
That's why it's important that kids coming up now get exposure to the whole truth. We can avoid this rabid nationalism that's currently go a stranglehold on our country that causes people to think we can do no wrong and we're always the good guys. We're not. And that's OK because no one is ever always the "good guy".
