Depends on what the neighbor is like. The neighbor behind me is a good person and had a dead oak tree in his yard that if it came down would fall directly on my carport most likely. I just talked to him and asked him if he minded me getting urban forester out to assess the tree. He said we should remove it and I offered to split the cost of removal with the neighbor. Worked out well because we both had some other stuff we wanted to take out anyway. One of my next door neighbors who shares a fence with me wanted to replace the entire fence (on their property) because a couple of panels broke off in the storm. I told them instead of spending all of that money all we really needed to do was fix a few posts and hang the panels back up. They covered the cost of materials and I did the work. Win win for everyone and saved us some money. Now with good neighbors conversations like that are easy. The other next door neighbor has been leaving trash at the street for years. Our big trash picks up every 2 weeks and it seemed like they would pick up and the next day the neighbors would have a brand new pile of trash out there for 2 weeks. They even had household garbage in this pile with food and stuff in it. Worst part is they would put it on my side of property line and trash would blow all over my yard. One of the other neighbors tried to have a conversation with them and they accused the old woman of killing their dog and threatened to suit them. Solution you ask? I anonymously reported it to code enforcement but reported it on myself since technically it was in my property. When I get my warning in the mail I took it over and had a frank conversation with the neighbor and the issue seems to have been resolved and they don’t think I’m the one who reported it since the violation was to me.
