I'm thinking it might go the other way with the reports of Griff looking for big swings. The melt will be "we gave up that many 1sts for him/them? How are we going to afford them long term?"

But back to Kira. I only saw his highlights from last night, but he looked good in them. It's a very small sample size but this season he's hit that pull up mid range well. I think he could easily be better than Graham, which they should try to verify before they make a trade to determine who they should target.

That is actually my concern.

Possibly, though I think there are different degrees and variations of overpaying.

The first is obvious, you just give up wayyyyyyy more assets than you think we should. Don't need to really explain that one.

But the other is who you're overpaying for. For example, we gave up an additional 1st that we absolutely did not or should not have when we got Steven Adams. That ticked me off because not only was it an overpay but it wasn't for a guy I felt was truly moving the needle or a final piece to an almost complete team.

The flip side of that is...let's use OG Anunoby. Assuming you like him and think he's that final piece/good player we need to round out a title contending team and you also think he's worth two 1sts, I don't think i'd flip out too much if we gave up an additional 1st. Not ideal, but just pointing out the same sorta scenario where you give up one more 1st than you'd like, but I can live with it in 1 scenario but really dislike it in the other.

DG and Kira don't play similar roles. They are different types of players. Comparing them doesn't really make a lot of sense, unless you're comparing which role is better for this team.

Everyone on this team is a role player to Zion and BI. How do you fit your role to make them better, and for you to be the most efficient role player? Are you going to share the court with them, or are you likely to be on the court without them?

One thing DG provides as a role player is off the ball movement and keeping his defender close to him most of the time b/c he gets his shot off quickly. Even when DG isn't shooting great from 3, he's still commanding the defenses attention when he's on the court, and that is an extremely important trait to have if you're going to play for this team. That's something Ryan Anderson and Mirotic did. Mirotic shot 35% from 3 with us, yet he still demanded constant attention and he moved well off the ball. I have no problem trading DG, but we have to bring in a similar movement type shooter to replace him, either right now or in the offseason. Despite DG not shooting well from 3 this year, he's still shooting 46% on wide open 3's this year. He can't be left alone, and defenses know this. and you can easily argue that DG is very hot and cold in games this year. He has great games, and he has many duds. I'll take that from a 10th best guy on the team, someone who can basically win you a few games on his own pretty much.
It's why i would like to see McDermott on the Pels. He can play 20 minutes and only take 5 shots, but the defense knew where he was on offense the entire time he played. That's a role player that this roster has to have, the guy that has tons of off ball movement, knocks down open 3's, and demands defensive attention.

Kira looked good last night, but what role does he play for this team going forward? Is he going to take Jose's spot as the backup PG? Can he and Jose play together?
I think Kira's role would be his ability to break the defense down and get in the lane, and we without a doubt can use that, especially if he can make wide open 3's.

We can't make decisions based on injuries. You build this team and make your decisions assuming good health to all, b/c you aren't winning anything unless you are healthy, so plan on that. We aren't trying to build a team to win regular season games when BI/Zion don't play, we are trying to build a championship team.
