Not the daylight/dark kind. They only open at sun-up and close at sundown (they do have a sensor to keep from smashing an entering chicken) but they won't open since they are closed unless there is a direct concentrated light force.


These are about $80. They're the best investment you can make.

Only downfall is that if the power ever goes out, they won't open/close.

Remedy is to hook them up to a small solar power bank by the coop.

We went with one similar to this one. I had been researching already and I wanted a timer as opposed to one that worked based on daylight.

Days like yesterday, it was dark outside and the sun still wasn't down and still had a few chickens running around.
