Could Nichols have worked harder to comply? In hindsight, answer ranges from perhaps to a yes.
Should the cops have done what they did to the Nichols? No. It just isn’t defensible from any angle.
It’s just seems that this guy couldn’t do anything right with this set of cops. There just seems to be more to the story and we don’t have that context.

Worked harder? You either comply or you resist.
No, him resisting did not warrant that beatdown to death. However, he would be alive today had he complied and that is usually the case in these situations. Do your revisiting in court with a lawyer.
