Scotland/England trip recs

Summer trip, just me and wife. 8 to 9 day trip overall including travel time. We do have some friends who live near London would like to visit, but plan to spend the majority of the time in Scotland. Would like to jump over to Ireland if we had time, but don't think we will he able to fit it in.

Scotland is amazing. What are you looking to do? Eat? drink? Outdoors?

Yes
We would like to see the highlands, and the lochs. Castles, anything with historical significance. Good local food and pubs is probably something of interest, and renting a car and going into the countryside if possible.
If we have time would like to see Stonehenge, London, and Mayne some small towns in England.

Cool. So I have done two trips to Scotland and probably have covered at least 75% of the country. Edinburgh is nice but I felt like it was similar to any other big city.
I enjoyed sitting by the 18th green at St Andrews watching golfers play.
In Dundee the Speedwell Bar is a classic. Amazing joint where we met some now lifelong friends.
Dufftown is a small spot but the center of the Speyside scotch universe.
Aberdeen had a couple cool sites, namely ones on the coast. Holy hell the wind was nuts.
Inverness is something we cut short and likely should have spent more time in.
Spoke to someone who said Oban was their favorite.
I will say the national park in the center of the country is absolutely breathtaking. We stayed in Aviemore and loved it.
Campbeltown is a bit off the beaten path but a sweet spot for some home run scotch.
Islay had a super cool, small town vibe. Easy to traverse.
Oh, the Glencoe Valley is breathtaking. One of the prettiest sites I have experienced.
So much to see and do. However don’t try to do too much. Pick a few places and absorb the culture. The people are fantastic.
