The notion of losing club a lot of head steed has been debunked. Some YT video showed a guy comparing standard driver vs 7iron length driver and he lost like 2mph club speed.
OP, I’ve done it before and here are some considerations
- shorter = lighter swing weight, so some weight may need to be added back to head.
- is it a counterbalanced shaft?
- consider picking up the same shaft in a 3 wood. Will be heavier naturally and affect swing weight less.

ETA: golf Pride 25 grip will also add a few points of swing weight back.. I think you lose 3pts for every half inch you trim on non counter balanced shafts
