I'm sure he still had his security classification. Him being an ordinary citizen isn't the issue. Him grossly mishandling them is the issue. Even if your the president, you still have to handle classified materials in a secure and tracked manner. He failed to uphold that mandate of the classification. Doesn't matter how innocent the mistake was either. There is no regard to intent.
