Lost my dad at the age of 62, cancer. I was 20 & all caught up in my college days, 2 hrs away. Missed a lot of the end of his days being Joe Cool on campus. But towards the very end, we did spend hrs & hrs together, so I was fortunate ...but I could have had a lot more time with him. Will always take this feeling of regret to my grave. Two things that I will always remember, and love about him, is that though he traveled a lot, for work, he drove hrs & hrs to see each & every baseball & basketball game I ever played. The other always makes me smile, as I used it in raising my 2 sons: whenever I messed up, big & small, my Mom was the family disciplinarian & roasted my ears many many times. My dad would sit there & nod his head, a stern look on his face. And at the end, as Mom walked away, he would turn & look at me & give me the biggest "wink" an eye can give. And smiled. An image that lives with me today. His friends, filling a huge room at The Petroleum Club, gave him an Irish wake...where nothing but funny jokes & stories are told...gave me an insight to a man I never knew. My loss.
