Did you post this when we got Denver Harris? Even though we lose Tolan, the portal has been our saving grace

Yea it’s great because we got him this year, however it’s not great for the conference. Imagine if they raided our teams, you’d be mad. What if Dylan Crews saw bigger opportunity at A&M or Vandy and he left? Do you think that’s fair?

Yes, getting some players from other SEC teams has helped us in the short term. However, in the long term it’s better for the conference to not have teams poaching directly from each other. I said that at the beginning when the SEC was first debating whether they would allow it. It was a mistake and I hope they see it now. I’m sure the bottom 6-8 programs are already complaining and even the top programs have lost some really notable players, a few of whom have been very successful.

Unfortunately, it’s going to have to be a P5 decision as a whole for this to really work. Any conference that steps out and outlaws intraconference transfers on their own will subject its teams to negative recruiting for “restricting players’ freedom of movement.” But if all of the conferences make the move together, there’s no risk of any of that.

ETA- mark my worlds. Some form of cap on intraconference transfers will be in place within the next 3 years because of Freeze at Auburn. Bama, LSU, UGA and a couple of others have cherry-picked guys. He’s going to take it too far and the other top programs will take action to handcuff him.
