Normally there’s a statute of limitations with regard to sexual assault crimes, California’s recent wave of woke-iness saw the State temporarily suspend that completely for a three year window that ended 31 December 2022. (California Assembly Bill 218. I think?)

Ostensibly we (society) have reached some period that we can now air any/all historical sexual offenses, in their opinion.
