They negotiated. They’re getting the assurances they need and now they’re voting accordingly. I don’t think it’s anything more than that. They would’ve done this with anyone they think isn’t one of them and running for SOTH. It was never about McCarthy.

"Assurances"? Whatever they negotiated will be reneged on after the vote. CONgress is full of lying corrupt criminals and their "word" means NOTHING.

Putting it in writing is worthless.

For some of them it was definitely about McCarthy. He lied to them before and they won't trust him.

For others, it is the swamp/ McCarthy politics.

So you don't get the results of negotiations in writing?

This is where I think Gaetz has gone sideways. Some of his comments indicated it is very much about McCarthy specifically and he makes it seem that it is personal for him and he would never vote for McCarthy regardless of any negotiated terms.

Stick to the message, stick to the list of items to negotiate and vote accordingly. Making it personal distracts from your message and gives people an easy excuse to dismiss the sound parts of your argument.

Why, for the other Republicans, does it have to be McCarthy or no one else? If your theory is correct that it was never about McCarthy, the prove it. Have McCarthy step out of the race and take a vote on others. If the holdouts continue to vote "no" then that would presumably provide validity that it is not about McCarthy and the GOP could point to the holdouts and say "these obstructionist assholes are the problem, not us. They won't vote for anyone not in their group."

Many conservative leaning voters, myself included, distrust the GOPe only slightly less than they distrust Democrats. McCarthy seemingly being the ONLY option after 11-12 failed votes does nothing to alleviate that distrust. Are you telling me there is not one GOP member of Congress capable of being Speaking of the House than Keven McCarthy?
