They can be tough to find but try renting a house in Wagener Terrace or Harleston Village. Walkability in Charleston isn’t the same as a big city. You’ll need to leave the peninsula regularly for errands so having some space to yourself is possible and a bigger plus. Wagerner terrace and Harleston village are quiet but close enough that an Uber is cheap or you have some decent spots to walk to. If you definitely want an apartment and not a house, look at the jasper.
I would avoid the Elan, it’s loud as hell in that area and not as convenient as you’d expect. The Caroline is alright but that area of the peninsula floods all the time with just the tides and can be really bad with rain. Brittlebank is a great park if you have a dog but the fishing isn’t great, you really need a boat to fish Charleston. I wouldn’t let anyone scare you about drinking out there. There’s a hobo in the swamp who does what he wants undisturbed. Cops don’t really bother you in Charleston unless you’re acting like a jackass on King. The beaches are a different story but just put it in a cup, don’t be a dick and you should be fine.

This is super helpful info, thanks. Just told the GF we need to decide on an area/building ASAP because there's very few options. We're not going to rent a house because we definitely want a pool and the social aspect so we can meet people.
The Jasper looks good but one of our mandatories is an outdoor space, and they don't have any availability for large 2 bedrooms with outdoor space.
