Hollywood should stop trying to make interracial romantic comedies.

Well, it's just weird to make a deal out of the concept.

"You're dating a black girl?"

Literally anyone today would probably look at the person like that was the weird one. "Yeaaah... and?"

I feel that the "romantic partners from different cultures" trope doesn't work super well in modern America.

Also, Jonah Hill got SUPER old.

The "you're dating a black girl?" thing is actually more common than you would think. I've gotten "Wait, you're married to a black girl?" as a reaction more times than I can count. To me, the culture clash thing in this movie is what seems forced. We'll see if liberal jews vs. black Farrakhan supporters has some comedy to it. There's also a bit of "he's so desperate, now he's dating a black chick" in there, which is dumb. It should be out soon, right? We'll watch it, hopefully it's decent.

(I realize the following is going to be a tinderbox. I’m just being real about society.)

I don’t care for the overrepresentation of interracial couples in commercials, just because it doesn’t represent reality. I’m fully in support of interracial marriages themselves. Or I guess you could say I couldn’t care less.

But there is a strong amount of our older populace that is still uncomfortable with it.

My wife’s and my parents are far from KKK but they also grew up during desegregation in the south. I’ve seen them have remarkable kindness in their lives to people of all races, but I’ve also seen some viewpoints that are from 1960.

My youngest has a black girl that likes him and he definitely likes her in some regard. She’s a family friend and we love that family. If they were ever “going out” even just in Jr High or HS it would be a conversation that would be difficult with both sets of parents.

Wish this movie still wasn’t an interesting comment on culture today, but it is.
