Runner up was versus Loyola Marymount in 1990. Loyola Marymount scored 141 points on us and STILL LOST by seven. Final score: LSU 148 - Loyola Marymount 141. There was absolutely NO defense played by either team for this game. It was like watching a tennis match with your head on a swivel.

If you go back and look at that 89-90 schedule you realize just how much college basketball (as a fan) has changed...for the worse. This year it took LSU until December 28th to get a good crowd in the PMAC because of an awful non-conf. schedule. And LSU isn't the only power conf. team that played a weak schedule.

Now, compare that with the 89-90 schedule. In addition to the SEC schedule, LSU played at home:

Kansas
UNLV
Loyola-Maymount.

They also played neutral site games vs. Texas and Notre Dame. The ND game was in the Super Dome and played before the largest crowd (at that time) to ever attend a regular season game in CBB history.

Major teams weren't afraid to play one another. And they weren't afraid to do it on tight schedules. LSU played ND in the Super Dome on Saturday...then played at Alabama the very next day! Six days later (with a game in between) LSU played Florida at home on Saturday then played #5 UNLV at home the next day.

It is hard to imagine for many now, but there was a brief time where LSU basketball was BIGGER than LSU football. LSU played in tons of big games and getting a seat in the PMAC was a tough task. This week's game vs. Arkansas would have been considered a horrible crowd compared to some of those in the mid/late 80's and early 90's. It used to live up to the moniker of the "Deaf Dome"
