Was wondering if any guitar players here have any experience with this microphone? From what I've heard, it sounds a little better than the Sennheiser MD 421-II when recording a cab.

Was looking into possibly getting one to pair with an SM57 or a 58, anyways just throwing this question out there on something im debating lol

lol Well, they're old school 1960s microphones. They're going for about $500-$650. Older mic using copper instead of aluminum and many other things I'm not up to date on. I've used the 421 2, which I like but the older ones sound brighter and seem to have a better low end response imo.

The microphone is popular with recording engineers, used in the production of all genres of music. The MD 421 N is primarily used for drums, guitar amplifiers, woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments. It is known for its almost linear frequency response in the bass range up to 1,000 Hz. Above that, the microphone exhibits a smooth increase in upper mid-range frequencies important for intelligibility.

The answer probably lies here, but I'm sure as hell no expert.

Came in here to say this. Maybe my favorite mic ever on rack and floor-toms.

Production booth at WFRI in Opelika had one of these sleek black beauties back in the ‘80s when I worked there. Great broadcast mic.
