Currently watching the show 1883 and finding it very interesting what the people who migrated west went through. What are some recommended books out there on this topic that really delve deep into what the people who migrated west went through in their travels?

Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose, about the Lewis & Clark expedition after the Louisiana Purchase, is a good one. It's not about the mass migrations to the west, but it's the start of the story of American westward expansion.

The age of gold by HW brands
It does talk about the gold rush ( which is what I thought the entire book would be about ) but the majority is how people from all over struggled to actually get to California by wagon or by ships

Klondike by Pierre Breton is another good gold rush book focusing on Alaska.
And the Grapes of Wrath.
