At this point he cant just leave the academy to prepare for the draft. When you attend your first class your junior year you are now committed to Uncle Sam. If he leaves the academy before graduation he will be reassigned to a regular Army unit as an enlisted soldier.

I know a guy who did ROTC at LSU for a year He was a junior so he signed his commitment immediately (cadet paperwork is basically enlisted paperwork). He decided it wasn’t for him after that year, told the cadre, and was issued a DD-256 (honorable discharge) and had to sign a promissory note to pay back that year’s worth of tuition.
I guess it could be different at the service academies but I assumed it would be the same deal?

Does Affirmation also include the 8 year obligation (5 active + 3 IRR) after graduating?
I still can't get an answer on whether or not Spencer Rapone had to pay back everything after he was kicked out.
