I grew up in the 60s. After the Manson Family stuff a lot more people started locking their doors at night even in rural America...

We had a back door to the house that wouldn't lock good...could open pretty easily if you jiggled it a bit.
After reading Helter Skelter that fricking door became almost an obsession with me.
