Most of the rank and file in automotive production are payed less than your average SoLa Chemical plant baw.
That’s one of the reasons you don’t see heavy automotive manufacturing presence in Houston, Baton Rouge, or Lake Charles. They would struggle to find qualified workers and would have to compete with Exxon, BP, Westlake, CF, etc. for manpower.
Monroe, Bossier, Alexandria, Hammond, or Shreveport would be more likely to get durable goods manufacturing like rail cars, airplanes, or automotive assembly than the other bigger cities in Louisiana.

My understanding from a friend who lives in the area is that the line workers at the Kia plant in West Point, GA aren't really paid that well, but because they come from the Chattahoochee valley that they think they are making bank.
Meanwhile, the middle managers are relocating from SK and are buying houses in the Auburn/Opelika area and driving prices up close to 50%. Then the upper management folks are spending insane amounts of money to build lakeside homes on Lake Harding, a Georgia Power impound on the 'Hooch between West Point and Columbus.
