Only flew on a 747 twice: my first trip to Europe via KLM from ATL to AMS and my first trip to Hawaii via United from SFO to HNL. I was in HS and college for those flights so I flew in steerage, I kinda regret never flying 1st class in one of them.
I get people lamenting the loss of formality in flying today but it just doesn't have the luxury price tag it once did. I think we are all better for it and you can generally buy much more luxurious accommodations for long flights if you are willing to pay old-school prices. I used to dress to fly but now I am in shorts and a T-shirt unless it is going to be cold when I touch down then it is jeans and a sweater. There is nothing worse than being stuck on a plane with A/C issues wearing a suit.
