Phillip Montgomery fired. I thought this would happen 3 years ago.

Tulsa is a tough job. Smallest undergrad enrollment in Division 1 and located in an area without much football talent

They need either a no-nonsense program builder or a young innovative coach with a creative scheme

Do fans of these type programs hope for national titles or do they understand who they are and usually root for a bigger team along the way? Serious question. Always wondered.

That dude sidestepped and saved his job from the brink for like 5 straight years. I guess they were finally done with him. Tulsa is a very tough job to make relevant.

Arkansas State had a great streak of taking young and hungry guys looking at ASU as a step up job. They won a lot of games with a lot of coaches. Cajuns did a great job of treating Billy Napier the same way. Nothing wrong with being able to properly ID what you are and figure out the best way to be successful

We usually burn the HC’s house to the ground every time we lose a game and don’t make the College Football Playoff

Seriously though small schools just want improvement and to see the team trending in the right direction. 7-5 / 8-4 type seasons are considered huge accomplishments

I would imagine most Tulsa fans also root for OU and OSU

Yeah I’m not sure what the sales pitch is for Tulsa. They have no shot at moving to the P5. Maybe they can pick players out of Dallas, but now UNT and SMU will be in the same conference. The American is getting worse, but I think Tulsa is still clearly worse than several other jobs in the conference.

They must have some big boosters to field an FBS program at that level with so few students. I’ve never been to Tulsa, but I’ve been told it’s a good place to live.

Tulsa has done well when they have the right guy.

John Cooper won five conference titles prior to heading to AZ State.

Steve Kragthorpe won a conference title and jumped to Louisville.

Todd Graham won enough there to jump to Pitt.
