The big problem with a LEO in a fight is the fact that the officer has a loaded gun on his person and out of necessity it is readily available. All officers in their basic training are taught to maintain possession of their weapon at all costs, even if deadly force is necessary. I was taught to shoot to kill if a subject took possession of my pepper spray due to the fact I was armed with a firearm and would likely soon be helpless.
