My wife's family has a situation almost exactly like this. They are from a small town just outside of Alexandria, and think and act just like you would expect.
Gay son is a successful NICU nurse at Parkland Hospital in Dallas
Straight daughter is 31, has 4 kids with 3 different fathers, twice divorced, and back living at home with mom and dad
