No doubt it’s possible to win without serving before. I’m just saying it helps to have previous experience.
Trump is another that won a big election with no previous experience. But face it Reagan and Trump both had name recognition on their side before they ran.
There are no absolutes, and like I said Lake ran a good race, she came close. I’m just saying it’s not like she was some great candidate and a slam dunk.

Lake ran a great campaign but lost due to ballot harvesting.
