side hull and transom depth are the biggest factors to consider if the boat is suited for open water.

also i wouldnt take an older engine out there, even if its been 100% trouble free. if you have an engine issue it takes hours to be towed in after many hours, if at all, hoping to find someone to tow you in.

if you have to call coast guard for a tow its gonna cost you around $15k because you have to pay for that type of service

That baw is good. He can frick around with some snapper, cobia, and King Mackerel on that thing on a good day.
