Marta is good for a few things. I like using it to go to the airport, and downtown Decatur. It is not great though.

Never said Marta was great. I said that outside of a couple major systems, its as good as any other mass transit in the country. The US isn't exactly know for great mass transit.
People who love to trash Atlanta either don't like cities of that size in general, or they are comparing Atlanta to some fictional fantasy of what a large American city should look like. You can't compare Atlanta to Munich.
Urban sprawl, non-ideal mass transit, lack of character and charm.......sounds like Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, or just about any other 5-7 million size metro area where someone chooses to live 25 miles from the urban core.
