Never seen those before, looks like some tasty fillets. What are they called other than grunts? Looks like a fun trip

They are white grunts. Not sure if they are in the snapper family or not. They are excellent. Most we caught were 11-13 inches and pretty fat. I think he limit on them in the gulf here is 100 pounds. LOL.

Catching them off a 50-60 foot live bottom. Just small structure areas with corral or any man made stuff is full of them. I just rigged a drop shot rig with a 1oz drop sinker and 3/0 circle hook. Cut squid for bait. Its about as easy fishing as you can do and its a ton of fun. Had the two back rods rigged with (whatever we caught that we didnt want) cut up for big grouper even though we could not keep them.

I put these on my smoker with cedar planks. Just covered them in olive oil and cajun seasoning. They are extremely good eating.

I have 2 gallon sized bags of fillets left. I plan on shallow pan frying some of them next time and making some fish tacos...

My son is autistic and caught about 50 of them by himself. We had not even gotten in yet and he was asking when we were going back. I know him well enough to know, he had a blast

I believe grunts are in the snapper family and can be some darn good eating.
