Not to hijack the thread, but what has been the problem with Silverfield?
Honestly, there are quite a few problems.
1) Our high powered, quick tempo offense is gone. Our current OC seems to be under the impression that the spread and up tempo offenses are dead. That is how Memphis made a name for its self under Norvell.
2) Silverfield was hailed as an offense line specialist but our line is and has been so weak since he has been here. Cant run the ball and our qb is constantly running for his life.
3) It seems like every game we go up by double digits the staff takes the foot off the gas, no matter how much game is left. Its like this man game plans not to lose rather than to win
4) The thing that stick out to me most about him is that he made this whole big deal about how Memphis was his dream job and wants to be a lifer. Now, im a lifelong Memphis fan but im sorry, if thats your dream than man you have no aspirations in your career.
5) The Memphis job is a salesman's job, be it basketball or football. You essentially have to re-recruit the fan base every year as well. Sucks, but is what it is. Look at our most prized coaches, Calipari and Norvell, both could sell ice to an eskimo (or in our case fill an arena). Silverfield, isnt that. I get it, not everybody is built that way and thats fine. But i want my coach to show emotion and passion, this guy doesnt. And it shows in the fan commitment, the crowds that show up and the enthusiasm of the team. We played Temple a few weeks back and the sideline was absolutely dead. No movement, nobody getting excited, just guys sitting there.
Lastly, would they get rid of him after 3 years? I think it really depends. If they knew they had an absolute 99% shot with a young up an comer than absolutely. If that isnt the case and he finishes 7-5 with a decent bowl performance, probably not. Getting left out of the B12 was a big kick in the nuts to the program and the fan base. On top of that we have a new president and newish AD that seem content to just coast on what the folks before them did.
Sorry for the novel
