Interesting, maybe a fun, Joe McCarthy story….
Long before he was a US Senator and before he was “tail gunner Joe” he was the judge in the county where myself, parents, and grandparents are from. My grandparents had a farm which is still in the family. When McCarthy was the DA he stopped in to have my grandpa sign some papers on a land purchase he had made but when he did this a storm was approaching and my grandpa refused to get down off of a barn roof he was fixing to talk to a guy in a suit. So Joe climbed up the latter with the stuff he needed to sign and then after they got off of the roof of the barn they were on Joe helped my grandpa and grandma get cows into the barn before that storm hit. The storm rolled in and Joe stayed put until it passed just chilling with my grandparents. This was in the late 30’s and early 40’s. Until the day both of them died in the early 90’s my grandparents were staunch supporters of McCarthy because of that one interaction they had with him when he climbed up on the barn roof.
