Affordable winter vacation recommendations

Wife and I are looking to take a winter trip to go skiing, sledding, etc. Not necessarily a ski trip, but enjoy a cold weather vacation.
Any recommendations? The more affordable, but not lacking the experience, the better. Thanks in advance!

If you and your wife are looking forward to a winter vacation, you should go to Powder Highway Mountain. It is a popular winter backcountry ski trip destination in this area ( LINK ). It is a famous backcountry skiing tour. It requires some hiking, but it is nothing like you have done before. There are lots of cabins available for rental, as well as an on-site hotel and restaurant. You can ski as far as you want and for as long as you want. This is an ideal vacation for you and your wife.

If you can get a good deal on a flight Jackson and Banff are good spots. Tons to see and do there beyond skiing, winter is the offseason for both places so you can find lodging deals. The exchange rate is also nice if you go to Banff.
If you want to ski Jackson Hole is expensive but Snow King or Grand Targhee are much more affordable. The Banff ski resorts are affordable as well.

We typically fly into steamboat and ski there, but the prices are ridiculous.
This year we are driving to Taos and spending the week there.
