I made this thread earlier, but for the tldr folks, it's a bit of a copout answer, but I think just time and more reps will help tremendously, I don't really think there is anything structurally off. I honestly think Daniels being a bit more aggressive (throwing into tighter windows) would help, but the WR's need to help him as well.

quote:

I'll start off with just some prevailing thoughts here. First being, this was just a bad game all around. The conditions were poor, first time on the road, Auburn threw some looks at us that we weren't ready for (more on that in a bit). My hope is, and I don't think this offense will ever be GREAT, but my hope is this was just an off night where they were particularly bad.

I feel better about Denbrock now than I did at the time. I think the passing concepts can use a bit of work, but I also feel they're still working with an expanding playbook. Knowing how multiple Denbrock was at Cincinatti, we aren't there yet. My justification for that opinion: We are working in a bit more every week. A bit more jet motion, a bit more read option. You're seeing them add a bit more each week. Denbrock is still learning his players and vice versa.

We need Dellinger back. The interior of the OL was objectively bad in pass protection. The two Freshman OT's were beat on a few occasions, but I would say largely they were solid, but the interior did nobody any favors.

The WR's, were objectively bad. From the drops, to the route running. They created little separation all night and I think the QB's legitimately had a difficult time placing the ball to open WR's. I'm not hitting the panic button yet, but the Georgia fan base didn't seem all that enamored with Cortez Hankton.

Auburn, while they brought pressure at times, largely sat back in coverage and dropped, 8-9 guys. They really took away passing lanes. I feel that's why you saw so much action from Mason Taylor. I didn't have much of an opinion either way on it prior, but I do think there's a little bit to much on Taylor's shoulders right now and I would like to see Bech lined up there a bit more. I don't need him blocking or anything like that, but you're wasting away a mismatch at times.

So back to the confusing Daniels thing, Kelly referenced it in post game and I think what he was referring to was the way Auburn dropped their best pass rusher, Derick Hall #29, into the secondary a good bit, specifically on 3rd downs. He would line up in a 3 safety look and then immediately crash down, as a spy on Daniels. But this also gave Daniels some looks he wasn't prepared for.

Now a bit on Daniels. First thing, those who say he doesn't go through his progressions and he makes one read and runs, that's crap. He actually does a fair job going through his progressions. BUT, he's extremely hesitant to fit the ball into windows. I have to think Kelly and Denbrock have hammered into his head protect the football, but he could stand to be a little more aggressive. I think his biggest issue though, he's very slow/very inconsistent with his anticipation. The ball doesn't come out quick enough, not in the sense that he's holding onto the ball trying to find someone open, but that instead of putting the ball on a spot and getting the ball out when he needs to, he waits for a guy to actually become open. On an out route for example, instead of throwing when the guy is breaking, he waits until he is out of his break. I also think this rears it's ugly head on first and second downs. Players that aren't really open (as the play can be completed, but maybe not have yac), but I'm ok with a first down completion for 4-5 yards, and maybe with these receivers they make someone miss and pick up additional yardage.

So all in all, like I said to start, my hope is was just an off night for an already "so so" offense. Personally I think issues were kind of expanded on and this will largely be an outlier. The offense was not on the same page. It wasn't all on Daniels, it wasn't all on Denbrock, it wasn't all on the receivers. I'm also now, even more so, of the opinion that a QB change wouldn't do anything for this offense. If anything, I came away with a higher appreciation for Daniels ability to run.
