Tourism and attention to the country. I don't see why people keep asking these questions. The royal family is an image of Britain and brings the country positive attention. That's it. Just like the eiffel tower or the statue of liberty, which people also pay taxes for.

Arlington Cemetart, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Mt. Rushmore, etc. You pay taxes to these things, and that serve as both historical monuments and a draw for tourism. The money from those entities goes to the government, and the same is true of the royal family. They have their own ventures on the side, but a lot of the establishments that serve as the backdrops of their pageantry bring in money for Britain.

The King is head of state and the crown/royal family directly and indirectly bring in way, way, way more money that it receives.
