Why are there still officials behind the defense in college football.

Has to be one of the most frustrating things to watch as a fan, watching the officials try not to be in the way but being in the way anyway.

You realize that's where a lot of holding calls come from, right?

They are there to get a better view of the LSU fans crying in the background.

Because the Umpire has to watch the guard, center, guard all game, that's his primary job all game.

The sole reason to get rid of them IMO. Defensive holding calls absolutely ruin the game.

I'm talking about offensive holding. The ref near the linebackers is looking for offensive holding among other things.

It's weird the Referee is the head official.

When the Umpire (the guy you're complaining about) does all the heavy lifting. He's the one who spots the ball, basically calls all the shite we hate...offensive holding...basically anything illegal at the line of scrimmage.

It's always been weird to have some dude in the middle of the field behind the defense...but you're not going to see stuff just standing 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage like the Referee.

And has this really been that much of an issue in history? The guys are pretty agile.

Really?
You just lost to Texas Tech, and your head coach is a booger eating moron.
