Ever heard "give them an inch, and they'll take it a mile"? Agreeing to have people removed for no logical reason was not some small thing by the German citizenry. Hitler had an irrational hatred of Jewish people, spewed it in front of massive crowds, and the people just went right along with it. What did they think was going to happen to those people once they were "removed"? And it wasn't just Jews who were affected. Anyone deemed unfit to contribute to society was subject to be executed at any time. When a man is willing to purge any part of society without due cause, no one should have felt safe.

I think Peterson might have been more accurate to say that everyone has to be willing to accept lies. They don't have to tell lies, or even believe in them. They just all have to be willing to do nothing about it.
