Does anyone own or ran one of the 40 hp Go-devils with the reverse? If so, how are they and would you recommend?

A buddy does. Hes a big guy and he loves it. Hunted with him a few times with about 3 of us in the boat with his son and it seems to eat through the mud. However, I know many debate GTR vs. GoDevil Vs Prodrive or whatever with regards to their reverse feature.

Thanks. Do you know about how big the boat he runs is? Our new lease is about a 15 mile run 1 way. Currently run a 50 hp on a 18x54 and wouldnt want to sacrifice too much speed running that far but this spot is very shallow and full of stumps.

I dont exactly the size but I know its no shorter than 18 feet long. Hes always telling me if I get a boat get nothing less than an 18 foot and get more than you think you'll need.

Have one on an 18x48. It's quick. Pulls good in mud also. It's a galvanized steel frame instead of aluminum like GT, PD or MB so it's heavier. I've had them all. I went with the FNR because I'm close to the shop. So I don't have to drive to Loreauville if I have an issue. I prefer the driving style of the PD though. It handles more like an outboard.

I operate one about 15 hours a week during the season. It's a nice machine, I love the EFI, but the reverse is weak. I use the reverse to back out of the boat shed, or in open water, other than that I push pole if I need power. The manual knob trim is average and even with a GD hull I still can't get the trim perfect.
I operate GD, Gator Tail, and Pro Drives extensively during hunting seasons. Gator tail and GD are very similar in performance and reverse power. The pro-drive is a little more friendly on ergonomics and the full power reverse is unrivaled. The gator tail and GD win on top end speed.
