Very few bigtime pitchers right out of high school, Heavener is one of them coming next yr. The rest you have to develop, Maxwell who all wanted wasn’t bigtime out of high school. Chenise Delce SEC pitcher of the yr wasn’t bigtime out of hs (went to Tulsa) but developed into 1…If Beth thinks she can develop into a very good pitcher then great!! BTW, there is another pitcher committed that throws close to 70 and ranked in the top 20…stay tuned

There are several every year. And I agree, there are always arms that develop into much better pitchers than projected for whatever reason--great coaching, later development, etc. However, the bigger programs tend to nab the already proven (on top travel ball stages) arms. Of course these same programs ALSO recruit players that may not already have the shiny resume but they see the potential in them or see what others don't see and feel they can train them and make them better or that they are on an upward trajectory. You HAVE to recruit those type of players as well, if for no other reason than the fact that 12 scholarships (and the new money some schools can give) only takes you so far and they have to fill out their teams. I think most people's point here isn't that they should not take players that are not big names or that those players won't end up panning out, but that they should be securing the bigger ticket players too!! The big ticket kids tend to be brought into visits earlier.

Just saw another pitcher was committed. Ashlin Mowery. Sounds like a promising arm despite not being one of the better known arms out there.

that's because she was hurt during high school due to overuse and had to redshirt her freshman year.
