Thoughts on the scrimmage at Sam Houston State. We attacked the ball at the plate, we pitched all non starters from last year with Chaffin leading off and giving up a bomb but three good innings and three runs on the bomb. Casanova entered the game and struggled the first inning with a HBP followed by a walk then a bomb. She then settled down. She may turn out to be a great surprise in time. She is a 6’2” walk on pitcher with a 69 mph fast ball and a 45 mph change. She is a Beth project and it seems to be coming along well. Taylor Edward’s pitched well throwing close to 70 but still straight as an arrow no movement she also gave up a bomb. Stroud came to close out four outs and retired most all with pop ups.

The bats were hot and attacked with 7 HRs on a short porch field 190 in the corners 220 centerfield. I would guess 4 would defiantly been out at Tiger Park. Hitting bombs Pleasants, Clark, Stewart, Petty (2), Roudetey, Newland had a slam. Multiple players with multiple hits including Petty with 4 and Carson with two.

Saturday night the Tigers played Texas State and through 7 it was a 5-3 game with the freshmen pitchers throwing after Kilponen shut them down for three innings. Petty continues to impress with the stick and Berzon was outstanding.

Berzon had a nice night with 6k’s in three innings, this Texas State team is a decent team. But so hard to get a good read on anything due to half hitting and half fielding them flipping them around.

Final scrimmage score after 10 innings 9-3, I hate these long scrimmages……but everyone hit some playing time both nights.

Very positive with the effort on the weekend compared to last year when Okie State put it on us in the fall. They definitely moved them around in the field with no one get all the innings. Texas State had some quality arms just not too tough with the sticks.
