If Miles does burn Jefferson's redshirt this weekend, does anybody think Hatch sees the field again? Crowton has been quoted as saying Jefferson is quicker and more fluid in his running ability than Hatch. Why not let Jefferson hand off and run the option, at least he offers the threat of throwing deep? Hatch might be a better fit as an (under)graduate assistant.

and pitching to a back three steps from the sideline. I really rooted for Hatch because I think he has a great story, but I think Jefferson could provide the spark this team needs.

I think Miles would use Jefferson to run the option, I doubt seriously we would see Jefferson take away many snaps from Lee. Kinda leaves Hatch on the outside looking in.

I realize that, but I thought we was "hurt" against Miss. State and Miles was pushing for a medical redshirt that was all but guaranteed...

I trust Crowtons assessment, but that may be for next year. He looks painfully weak in the little that he has played. I mean, he got hurt on basically his only run of the season. Miss St. nearly broke him in two. Let the guy develop and learn the system. Why risk wrecking another young guys confidence because it's painfully close to that for Lee, IMO>

Was he really hurt? I thought this was a ploy for the medical redshirt?

I too trust Crowton's judgement. I also think if Jefferson gives us a better chance then Hatch to win right now the game experience is more valuable than the redshirt.

Agreed but I don't think he does. But then again, Miles and Crowton are watching the development in practice. I just think that if we have to play Jefferson, that says the confidence in either other player is shot and that doesn't bode well for next year.

Hatch was a Crowton recruit to BYU, I would think he would want to use him more. I am a little disappointed he isn't fighting for this kid. He really isn't as bad as most of this board paints him.

I personally think that Hatch needs more game experience so that he is able to back up Lee if Lee gets hurt. I also think that Lee needs to be used sparingly in the Tulane game when the Tigers can build a sizeable lead, and let JJ get several minutes if the medical redshirt isn't plausible (I really doubt that the NCAA will grant this--didn't JJ walk off the field on his own power after he got hurt?). But who knows?

I actually applaud Crowton for going with Lee, I would hate for loyalty to interfere with putting the players that give this team the best chance to win.

He knows how to manage a game and not throw pick sixes. When we are up 2 tds against Bama (after JJ dominates) look for him to come in a fair amount towards the end and close it out

What I dont get is this: Hatch was named the starter for a reason at the beginning of the season. That reason MIGHT have been due to the fact that his play was equal to Lee's during the spring, but just a better game manager or that he was an upper classmen wrt Lee, but either way... he was the starter. I realize that he got a knee to the head for one game and we had to go with Lee, but if one is a better "game manager" than the other, why didnt he stay the starter until HE started losing games, etc?

Make all the crappy comments you want about Hatch and his abilities.....

but, let's get one more thing clear here.....Hatch's play (or lack thereof) is not the reason for the losses to Bama or FLA....

while his capabilities might be limited in comparison to Lee, he has generally managed to "not lose" games for us, and actually did deliver a key pass and a couple of good runs for 1st downs when allowed to play last week.

Anyone that thinks Hatch has been given a fair chance to get back into the lineup on a more regular basis is smoking dope......one failed series where LSU is required to punt the ball away does not make for a "poor QB"....it beats the hell out of a returned pass of a TD.

That being said, if they're not going to allow Hatch more playing time, then we might as well bring in JJ, and see what happens....

I'm all about doing what it takes to win...whether it be playing a QB who "manages the offense, doesn't make huge mistakes, and gives the other players the opportunity to win" -or- playing the QB that can score the most points, yet gives up the occassional pick 6...

so far, we haven't seen a big win with the latter, and really haven't allowed the former to play for more than a few series since his injury vs. Auburn.....a game where Lee would've likely not seen the field again if Hatch doesn't get hurt.

Remember,

Hatch does have a huge age difference between himself and Lee, which is a big advantage when it comes to maturity and decision-making in key games.....

Leadership is something we're lacking on both offense and defense, and it's typically not ever going to come from a RS Freshman....

I respect Miles' and Crowton's decision to flip the rotation toward Lee vs. Hatch as the primary QB due to Lee's potential....unfortunately, Lee's education has come with a price, but perhaps we get the value out of it later in the year and/or in the years to come.....just would've liked to see how these games would have turned out if we'd played a more low-key run-oriented game starting both games, not gotten behind early, and perhaps taken a bit more pressure off our defense. We may have still lost, but perhaps not by huge margins.
