Guy at my church retired from the railroad. He pretty much echoed you: horrible management, including orders to cut corners on safety measures.

I can see it coming already. This move is "racist" because it will negatively impact poor and low income black Americans who depend on low cost Amtrak as a method of travelling longer distances.

All the time. Told to violate their own rules constantly.
Blind shove in the yard? Yardmaster says he'll watch it. Crew shoves out the other end into the side of a train. Crew fired for not protecting their shove. (Yardie is not part of your crew so cannot protect your shove per the rules. But he is the boss in the yard and told you to do it. boom )
