Why is LSU 15th in both polls but only 19th in the BCS?

This seems a little harsh. Maybe lsumatt can shed some light on it for me.
It's hard to fathom how LSU "deserves" to be sandwiched between Tulsa and Brigham Young.

The computers fricking hate us, mainly because we haven't beaten anyone and lost to everyone of consequence. A similar thing happened in 06, but we jumped upward dramatically for our first "signature" win at Tennessee. After that, the computers jumped us upward to be more in line with the human polls where we were previously higher ranked.

This may seem kind of outrageous considering
the mass hysteria that's gripping TD at the
moment, but suppose that LSU managed to win
out and take out Bama and UF on the way.
That would be two "quality wins" right?
Where would that leave LSU in the grand
BCS scheme of things?
IMHO the BCS title game would probably be
out of reach, but the SECCG is still attainable
if LSU and team "X" both beat Bama, right?

Yep. All we gotta do is beat Bama, and not frick up against Ole Miss and Arkansas.
Then, hope and pray either Mississippi State or Auburn can somehow knock off Bama as well, and we're in the SEC CG.

MSU beating Bama would be their "Stanford", in more ways than one. Depending on their health and mindset, I'd give MSU a puncher's chance.
Auburn is a rivalry game. Auburn would hang their season on it. Tubby would hang his job on it.
Hard to see it from a nuts and bolts perspective though. Auburn is pretty bad this season.

Yes, the SECCG game is attainable if some team pulls a crazy unexpected upset on Bama. But in that position, ranking won't matter. Either we win, and get the auto-BCS to the Sugar, or we lose and we go to one of the New Years Day bowls, whichever is obligated to pick up the SEC champ loser that year (a rule that actually started because of LSU, ever since in 2005 we fell to the Peach Bowl despite being ranked in the top 10).
In all honesty, the best-semi-realistic case scenario for LSU is for us to win out, beating Bama, but sitting out for the SEC champ ala 2006 only to be picked up for the BCS bowl, because I am not entirely convinced we can beat UF. We have the talent on both sides of the ball, but those fricking defensive schemes.....
The main impediment to this happening is that UGA would also look very tempting under this scenario. LSU has the "defending national champ" label behind it, but that may be completely blown with our two losses playing out the way they did. UGA would need to lose elsewhere outside of UF to lock up the bid for LSU if a second SEC team is taken, and it would be best if Bama lost the SEC champs as well.
If Penn wins out, this scenario has a fair chance for the much desired LSU-USC game to occur in the Rose Bowl. If an SEC team isn't in the national championship and Penn is, I can guanrantee that there will be an SEC team in the Rose, be it LSU (very long shot though, we will have to close out impressively outside of winning Bama)UGA/UF/Bama.
Cue the WAFB comments.
EDIT: Nix the "guanrantee," forgot about OU.
But at least they still have to play Tech and OSU to make it possible

Oregon State probably won't win out, but if they do, they're in the Rose Bowl and deservedly so.
That means Fiesta time for USC vs. Big 12.
I'm not optimistic about USC's chances for the BCSCG, but the consolation prizes are looking pretty sweet.

USC-LSU would not.

That would be a good match. USC-LSU would not.
For our part, the defense is nails but our offense has had issues against decent defenses (#18 Arizona and #26 Oregon State).
