Saban would not have been as successful at L S U as he has been at Alabama because L S U has never had and still doesn't have the well organized and sophisticated system for buying players that Alabama has had since the Bear Bryant days. As in everything, practice makes perfect and Alabama is the best in the country at that.

More like Saban, had he stayed at LSU, wouldn't ben Bama-level Saban b/c of what he learned in the NFL. He came back a different coach with a better understanding of football without being over-reliant on "his system". Even 2004 started showing cracks in the blitz-heavy system Saban had attached his mindset towards.

Kelly's never been a good enough coach to sniff the NFL, so he's never had the opportunity to have to compete at a higher coaching level and change/develop.

lol what a shitty take about Kelly. Saban had previous stints in the league and was long thought to have that itch.
It’s not like he was plucked from college bc of his tactical genius. He was widely known to be an NFL guy at heart until he failed miserably. Bama was the beneficiary.

We get it you don’t like Kelly but you don’t have to be disingenuous about it.

We will never know but I’ll bet pre NFL Saban wouldn’t take a school like cincy to an orange bowl. Hell he had one good year in 5 at Michigan state prior to coming to LSU

Product of era. The college to N.F.L. coaching pipeline of the early 2000s hadn’t existed in a long time. Kelly gets a shot if he’s coaching at ND in 2002 with the same success he had.
