LSU Football for the last decade has been defined by it's Defense. When the chips were down, we could always depend on the Defense to rise to the occasion. The Swagger, the confidence, the ability to shut a team down, 3 and out when we need the ball back. Laron coming in on the blitz, DL shutting down the run, etc.
You want to see LSU's defense, look at Tx and Ala. The attitude on Defense gave the Offense confidence that they could overcome any mistakes. This yr. we expected offensive mistakes with young QB's. This yr, we lack the leadership on Defense and it starts with a lack of a DC. The D needs a captain of the ship, someone who calls the shots. Past DC's have had a knack for calling the right scheme at the right time, like a good poker player. This leads to confidence, with confidence, aggressiveness. With aggressiveness, the true athlectic ability of our players will shine through. Miles, until this yr has shown the ability to make great coaching hires. Inovative coaches that kept our team on the cutting edge of college football. Just look at the guys that went to the NFL. Maybe the right DC was not available at the time or maybe he felt an obligation to Mallory & Peveto. If it is the later, then it was a bad executive decision. two minds are not better than one in a DC's role. The DC is the leader of the defense. He makes the final call after assitants advise. We have advisors compromising a defense. Compromise leads to a non aggressive predictable style of play. That is what we have today.
