It sounds like maybe Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes or some older female soul voice.

I'm glad that they had the success that they did.
Especially for Brittainy. She had it rough growing up. For real, not some made up sad story.

You know, my Dad loved this kind of music and the most low down of Honky Tonk Country.
It embarrassed me to no end when I was a teenager, and he would start dancing like he was James Brown, with an unlit cigar chomped in his teeth.

No. They put out to great records. Brittany's solo stuff and her Thunderpussy group leave plenty to be desired, but AS were fantastic.
