Why is it that The Silmarillion has never begun to approach the popularity of The Hobbit or of The Lord of the Rings?
It's because the First Age is depressing, that's why.
Amazon is not going to make money off Tolkien nerds. They need to have 20 million people watching this show. The story of the kinslayings is way too complicated and depressing to be a part of this TV show, in which elves must simply be regarded as "the good guys."

Ladies and gentlemen you just outed yourself. No matter what they do anything is possible as long as we can get 20 million people to watch it. frick whatever we have to do in between to get there. SMFH
They failed before they even started with that attitude.

But its the point of the Oath of Feanor. That Oath destroyed everyone who took it and brought them into hell. You just don't bring it up just casually. It was probably the consequential decision the elves ever made.

The First Age is incredible. It's basically the Old Testament of Middle Earth.
The reson The Silmarillion never was a giant mega hit among the mainstream was/is because it's almost impossible to adapt to the screen because it covers so much ground and because the book itself is not a compelling narrative work (from a traditional fiction standpoint) and instead is presented almost as a non-fiction re-capping of ancient tales, very simarly to ancient religious texts such as the Bible or Torah.
Tolkein basically just wrote it so he had a background for why everything in LOTR was the way it was. It was his roadmap. His history.
The Hobbit was a children's book and LOTR was also aimed at the masses and focused only on a short, succinct period of time.
If a studio could get the rights to The Silmarillion, they would have to focus only on small parts of the book and make anthology series put of each tale instead of trying to tackle the whole thing.
Are you telling me that a story about Feanor and the Flight of the Noldor would not be compelling?
Are you telling me that seeing a finale of Fingolfin riding alone to the gates of Angband and challenging Morgoth would not be one of the most heoric things you've ever seen in the screen?
Of course it would. But it would also require a ton of work and money.

The others read like novels.
Assuming you read it, you know that. Content isn't the reason it is less popular.
