It was states rights buuuutttttt…. Slavery was one of the biggest rights that the south wanted to have available to them.
Anyone thinking slavery was not a major factor is being obtuse

So much history being ignored here. IF it was about protecting slavery, the South would have accepted the Corwin Amendment. IF it was about abolishing slavery, the North would never have introduced the Corwin Amendment.
