First thing he needs to do is hire a coach from Ouachita parish or the surrounding parishes…

I’ve stated this before here… NLU/ULM problems arise from the 90’s when they absolutely refused to recruit Ouachita parish… not having a inside man locked on the parish was plain stupidity.. West Monroe, Ouachita , Neville, Carroll, Wossman, Richwood(pre 88- post 00), OCS, St. Freds, Sterlington, West Ouachita plus every parish in NELA…even if you don’t pull the best, second best or third best players from these schools in the 90’s you still have a decent program… no one thought to recruit local players to raise the profile locally for fan support… I grew up in the Booker T area walking distance to the campus… played high school ball at Carroll not one time do I remember NLU hosting a outreach program to draw interest from local athletes… hopefully the new interim AD realizes this also

Also let me add… if you from Monroe … YES we will always pissed of about the name and mascot change

It's because ULM is backed into the win now corner so they are forced to hustle Juco guys that are for lack of a better description, instant coffee. They might get the odd local kid but it has never been a priority because it takes time to coach up recruits. ULM doesn't really have that luxury. I am with you since it is almost common sense that pulling local talent would help with putting warm bodies in the stands. I am not sure that Coach Bowden does this. It seems like he is more in tune with going this route too and filling in the gaps with the transfer portal so nothing is really changing.
