Legally yes.

It sucks for the dad, and the perp is a giant POS. But, the dad could have hurt an innocent person doing this. The law doesn't even allow cops to do this in some places, let alone civilians.

Not a huge fan of these hypotheticals. You usually hear this from monday morning quarterbacks saying, "Cops shouldn't have chased the guy into a neighborhood."

Bad things happen. Criminals shouldn't feel safe - ever. EVER.

"But what about vigilantes? We don't want that."

I'm not going to let my kid be a statistic, so smug pseudo-intellectuals can feel like the law is more important than her life.

"Two wrongs don't make a right."

Any decent father will take that trade.
