Cheers brother. None of anything vitriolic I have said about lack of football knowledge was directed at you. But I disagree a little bit with your last statement, the RPO was born out of the Rich Rod RPO which was based on a QB being mobile.

I will play along.

He might be the next Vince Young or RG III.

Instead of playing along, why not just be reasonable? Aka the coaches think he is the best option we have (with Nuss being a close second or vice versa)? And that he can be a successful QB in the league for us this season

I feel like the disconnect is that you think that the people being positive about him think he is the second coming of Christ. We all know he isn’t the perfect QB. But he definitely has some ability and the coaches have seen that and like it.

Gotta disagree baw.

To get to the roots of the RPO you’ve got to go all the way back to Hal Mumme and Tim Couch.

But in your defense some people do credit it to Rich Rod I just happen to think those people are wrong

Gah Hal Mumme. Now we’re talking. Didn’t Mike Leach work under him? Another interesting thing is that Mumme coached Southeastern when they re-started their football program.

They developed the air raid together.

That was the origin of the RPO. they were at Kentucky together. Tim Couch was their quarterback. Couldn’t run for shite but was lethally accurate.

They told him to read either a DE or LB, I can’t remember. If he bit on the play action throw the bubble if not give it away.

It was rudimentary but thus the RPO was born.

ETA: after a little digging it was Jevon Kearse, DE, Florida that Mumme was trying to negate.

Normally a team would do that with an option but, like I said, Couch ran about as fast as a two legged Buffalo so they had to find another way to use his athleticism against himself. And there we have the RPO.

Interesting, good stuff. I’m not looking forward to playing the Pirate and his air raid this year, Will Rogers is deadly in that offense.

Play disciplined. Sit in your zone and they can’t hurt you.

The minute you go man they’ve already beaten you.

Playing zone is fricking hard with a bunch of fresh faces though.

That’ll be the game where we see just how good of a coach Matt House is.

It’s theoretically easy to stop a Mike leach offense. Not so easy in practice.

There are some things are working on our favor here, though. House specialized in this kind of defense at UK. Also, even though there are lot of new faces in the secondary, many of them have a lot of P5 experience and should be able to pick it up. The Arkansas guys who transferred here also played in a similar zone-heavy system under Odom.

That’s good to know. At least we’re more comfortable than we have been in the past. I still want to see those guys work together in zone coverage though. Communication and Familiarity are the hallmarks of a good zone coverage. Gotta hope we made up for lost time in camp.

God make it stop please. Yes he can run yes it helps no it shouldn’t be why he is the starter. Actually it’s probably second to last reason why he should start. If he starts awesome can’t wait to see him play but it WONT BE BECAUSE HE CAN frickING RUN FAST
