I lived at The Happy Note for several years. My then girlfriend, now wife, and I were regulars. Shirley the owner, Jack the bartender, Eddie the bartender on weekends. Eddie cooked on Saturdays, usually something like chicken and dumplings or red beans. We became good friends with Eddie and his family for many years. Tommy the manager/bookie. I almost always had to drop off an envelope for Tommy and rarely picked one up.

Lock was a regular and sat at the right corner of the bar. It became a race between he and I to get there first and grab that seat. Lock was a great guy but turned mean when he drank scotch. Haven’t heard from him in years.

It was a waste of many days and years but the memories are awesome.
